Everton and West Ham United face off on Sunday in an English Premier League showdown at Goodison Park.
Everton comes into this game sitting in 17th place, having picked up four points so far this year. Coming into the season, the thought was Everton might have some struggles, and so far that has been the case. Even though they have struggled, this season, the defense looked quite impressive in the last game. The defense didn’t give up a goal to Liverpool and that had to be a huge boost of confidence The offense didn’t score any goals either, but the game still ended in a draw. One issue for Everton heading into this game is they will be without goalie Jordan Pickford, who is dealing with a thigh injury. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is getting closer to a return and there is a chance he could play in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is West Ham, who sit in 18th place having picked up four points. West Ham’s last Premier League game came against Chelsea and the defense struggled, giving up two goals and that led to the 2-1 defeat. West Ham has played two Europa Conference League games since that game, and they have won each of those games. West Ham is pretty healthy coming into this game, but they will be without Nayef Aguerd and Ben Johnson, who are both dealing with injuries. In this game, West Ham needs to put pressure on the Everton defense.
If Everton had Pickford, this might be a game they win, but without him, I think their defense is going to struggle. Look for Everton’s defense to give up a couple of goals. I also don’t trust this Everton offense to even get on the board, and that is going to be the difference as West Ham United gets the job done.
