New Zealand and Honduras are meeting at Kashima Soccer Stadium in round 2 of Group B in the Olympics 2021 soccer tournament. After being without a win in their last 6 games, New Zealand has started this tournament with a win against the favorites. Honduras doesn’t look well, and they are now on a 3-game losing streak during which they conceded 10 goals.
As I’ve mentioned, New Zealand has started this tournament with a win, and it was against South Korea. New Zealand has had 41% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 74% of the correct passes. New Zealand was defending well in this game, and they were waiting for their opportunity, which came in the 70th minute. The goalscorer was Chris Wood, their best player, and New Zealand has won this match 1-0. Thanks to this win, New Zealand is in first place in their group, and they are really close to advancing to the next stage. Nobody expects anything from New Zealand in this tournament, probably not even themselves, but they were fortunate in their first game, and they will probably be advancing.
Honduras is a bad team, especially on the defensive end, and I just don’t see them getting through the group stage in this tournament. In their match against Romania, Honduras was actually the better team with 53% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 78% of the correct passes. Honduras was good enough to win this game, but their sloppy defense and the bad offense have cost them points in this one. Honduras has conceded a goal in the 46th minute, and they ended up losing this match 0-1. Honduras is not allowed to lose any of their last 2 games if they want to have a shot at advancing to the next stage, but judging by their defense, I don’t think that is possible. A miracle would need to happen for Honduras to start playing better, and I think this tournament is already over for them.
This is a game where I don’t expect a lot of goals, and I see both teams waiting for their chance. Honduras will probably dominate the possession here, but New Zealand is a solid defensive team, and I think they can keep them at bay. I’m taking the under in this one.
