RB Leipzig is welcoming Paris Saint-Germain to Red Bull Arena in round 3 in the UEFA Champions League.
Leipzig is struggling a bit over the last week, and they have lost their last 2 games in a row. During this bad streak, Leipzig has conceded 6 goals while scoring 0 goals. The latest loss for Leipzig was against M’gladbach on the road in Bundesliga. Leipzig wasn’t a bad team, but they weren’t able to use any of their chances in that game, and they ended up losing this game 1-0. This was the first loss for Leipzig in Bundesliga, and they are now in 3rd place with 13 points. Leipzig was playing against Manchester United on the road in their last game in the Champions League, and even though they were slightly better with 53% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and a decent 82% of the correct passes, but their defense was kind of sloppy in this match. Leipzig has conceded 5 goals in this game, and they ended up losing this match 5-0 on the road. This is a tough group, but Leipzig certainly has the quality to compete with PSG and United, and there is certainly enough time for Leipzig to get to one of the top two spots in their group.
PSG is in great form, but they will be without Neymar who is injured, and most likely Mbappe who will be rested in this game. Alongside Neymar, Bernat, Verratti, Icardi, Paredes, Letellier, and Draxler are also injured and they will miss this game. PSG hasn’t conceded a goal in their last 3 games while scoring 9 goals. PSG has also won their last Ligue 1 game against Nantes on the road, and they are at the top of the Ligue 1 standings with 21 points, 23 scored goals, and 3 conceded goals. After losing their first Champions League game to Manchester United at home, PSG was playing against Basaksehir on the road, and they have had 54% of ball possession in that game, 4 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and a decent 85% of the correct passes. It took a while for PSG to score a goal here, but they were able to score 2 in the second half, and with that, PSG has won this game 0-2. Kean is the leading goalscorer for PSG in the Champions League with 2 goals, while Mbappe added 2 assists. PSG is playing well, but without Neymar and Mbappe in the lineup, PSG is a completely different team. I know that PSG has a lot of depth, and they have decent replacements for Neymar and Mbappe, but those are just that, decent replacements.
Leipzig and PSG have met only twice, and each team has won 1 game. While Leipzig needs a win here to bounce back from the loss last week, PSG needs a win here to stay in the hunt for Manchester United at the top of this group. Leipzig is a good team, and I think we can expect a change or two in their lineup, while PSG will be without two of their best players. I will take a shot with Leipzig at home.
