Southampton and Arsenal face off on Sunday in an English Premier League showdown at St. Mary’s Stadium. When these two teams faced off on April 16th it was Southampton that secured the 1-0 victory.
Southampton comes into this game sitting in 14th place in the standings having picked up 11 points. Southampton has picked up four points total over their last two games. In the last game against AFC Bournemouth, Southampton’s defense was good, giving up zero goals, and that led to the 1-0 victory. Che Adams scored the goal in the 9th minute and the defense locked down the rest of the game. Southampton had 46 percent of the possession and three shots on goal. Kyle Walker-Peters left the last game early, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to be able to go in this game.
On the other side of this matchup is Arsenal, who sits in 1st place in the standings having picked up 27 points. Arsenal’s last Premier League game came against Leeds United, and they secured a 1-0 victory. Bukayo Saka scored a goal in the 35th minute. They also played a midweek game against PSV, and they secured the 1-0 victory. Bukayo Saka is dealing with a calf injury, but there is some hope that he’s going to be able to go in this game. Gabriel Martinelli is back from injury, and it’s expected that he’s going to be able to go in this game.
Southampton’s offense has been inconsistent this season, and they are going to have issues scoring against this Arsenal defense. Look for Arsenal to score two or three goals here, and this will be an easy victory for Arsenal. Back Arsenal -1.5 as the official play. I am also throwing a few dollars on Arsenal -2.5.
