Venezia vs. Roma 11/7/21 Serie A Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Venezia is hosting Roma at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo in round 12 of the Italian Serie A. Venezia has only 1 win in their last 8 games, and they are in the relegation spot right now. Roma has been hot and cold lately, and they have only 1 win in their last 6 games.

Venezia is one of the weakest teams in the league, and as the newcomer, there is nothing more they can expect. With 9 points, only 8 scored goals, and 17 conceded goals, Venezia is now in 18th place in the Serie A standings. In their last game in Serie A, Venezia was playing against Genoa on the road, and they have had only 37% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 5 shots inside the box, and 72% of the correct passes. Venezia’s offense might not have been great, but their defense was sharp, and the final score of this game was 0-0. Aramu is the leading goalscorer for Venezia with 3 goals. Lezzerini, Fiordillino, Johnsen, and Vacca are all injured. I don’t think Venezia is any worse than all the other bottom feeders in Serie A, but I think they will need to score a bit more to stay in Serie A.

Roma is a solid team, more than solid, but they have been struggling on both ends as of late. Roma has lost to Bodo/Glimt in the Conference League a few weeks ago on the road, and they weren’t able to beat them at home earlier this week. That game has ended in a 2-2 draw. as far as their last Serie A game goes, Roma was hosting Milan last weekend, and they were solid with 50% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 1 big chance created, and 87% of the correct passes. Roma was creating chances in this game, they just couldn’t turn them into goals. Roma has lost this game 1-2. Even though Roma isn’t playing well lately, they are still pretty high in the standings, in 4th place with 19 points. After the international break, Roma has a few easier games to play, and they will need to get some points out of it if they want to stay in the top 4 in Serie A. Pellegrini has been Roma’s best player with 5 goals and 4 assists this season, while Veretout added 4 goals. Spinazzola and Smalling are both injured. I still think Roma is a good team, and I think they will have a great season, but they need to stay focused on Serie A instead of the Conference League.

Venezia has beaten Roma only once in the past, and it was over 20 years ago. Roma is the better team here, and now they are playing against one of the weakest teams in the league, on both ends. I see Roma winning this game by a nice margin.
