VfL Wolfsburg is hosting Lille OSC at Volkswagen Arena in round 6 of Group G of the UEFA Champions League. Wolfsburg has a shot at qualifying for the next stage, but only with a win, and with a good result from Salzburg and Sevilla game. Lille is at the top of the table, they are in good form right now, and I like their chances in the Champions League.
Wolfsburg is not playing well right now, they have already changed their head coach this season, but it didn’t help. In their last 5 games, Wolfsburg has 4 losses and a draw, and this is a very hard time for them. In their last 3 games, Wolfsburg has conceded 8 goals, scored only 1 goal, and they lost all three of those games. Conceding 7 goals in 5 Champions League games is not bad, but scoring only 4 is, and that is Wolfsburg’s biggest problem right now. Nmecha has scored 2 goals for Wolfsburg so far in the Champions League. Arnold has added 2 assists. In their current form, I wouldn’t be hoping for a positive result if I were Wolfsburg, but anything can happen in this beautiful game.
Lille has started this season slowly, they weren’t looking great, but there are heading in the right direction now, and they are in great form. Lille has scored only 4 goals in the Champions League so far, but they have conceded only 3 goals. With 8 points, Lille is at the top of the table, and they will most likely be advancing to the next stage. David has been leading Lille both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and he now has 2 goals to his name in the Champions League. In their last game against Troyes at home, Lille has had 45% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 76% of the correct passes. Lille was losing at halftime, but they have had a great second half, and they ended up winning this game 2-1. Lille now hasn’t lost any of their last 7 games while winning their last 2 games in a row, and as I’ve mentioned, they are improving a lot, they are scoring goals, and they are finally looking like their old self.
I’m not writing off Wolfsburg just yet, but it’s hard to imagine they can get a win against Lille right now. There is no pressure on Lille, but they certainly don’t wanna lose this one. I’m taking the draw.
