Andy Murray vs. Gael Monfils French Open Pick, Odds, Prediction
2014 French Open: Wednesday, June 4, 2014 (Stade Roland Garros)
The Line: Gael Monfils See the Latest Odds
Andy Murray and Gael Monfils will meet in the 2014 French Open and the winner will advance to the semifinals.
After Murray was extremely shaky against Philipp Kohlschreiber, he bounced back in a big way be defeating Fernando Verdasco in straight sets. Murray has won 12 of 15 sets in this tournament and could advance to the semifinals of the French Open for just the second time of his career. It’s clear Murray isn’t 100 percent since his back surgery, as there’s still a little rust and he’s not yet as explosive as he was in the past. Still, Still, Murray still has that fight in him and it’s clear he wants to make up for a subpar showing in last year’s quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Monfils continued to roll by knocking out the surprise of the tournament in Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in straight sets. Monfils has won 12 of 15 sets in the tournament and has reached at least the quarterfinals of the French Open in four of the last seven years. While wildly inconsistent and never truly playing to his full potential, Monfils thrives in this tournament due it being played on his home soil. Monfils has the crowd behind him and the results show that it’s a huge advantage for the 27-year-old.
This will be the sixth meeting between the two players, and Murray leads the all-time series, 3-2. The two have split the two matches they’ve played on clay and Monfils won the most recent match in three sets, which was the 2010 Paris Masters.
I expect Murray to be the favorite, but I think there’s going to be a ton of value with Monfils and the plus money. Monfils will once again have the crowd on his side and has the quickness to really bother a slower Murray.
If Kohlschreiber could take Murray to five sets, Monfils has what it takes to win and advance to the semifinals of the French Open for the first time since 2008.
