Gilles Simon vs. Novak Djokovic 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

2014 Wimbledon: Friday, June 27, 2014 (London)

The Line: Novak Djokovic See the Latest Odds

Gilles Simon and Novak Djokovic will meet in the third round of the 2014 Wimbledon on Friday.

Although Simon has already played three tiebreaks, he has yet to lose a set in either of his first two matches against Robin Haase and Konstantin Kravchuk. It’s the fifth time Simon has reached at least the third round of the Wimbledon, although he’s never surpassed the fourth round, a feat he’s only accomplished once in his career. Simon has seen better days, however, as he’s lost four of his last seven matches and was tested against far lesser competition than what he’ll face in this match.

Djokovic looked a little shaky in his last match as well, as he was taken to four sets and a couple of tiebreaks against Radek Stepanek. Still, he’s won six of seven sets so far and has advanced at least to the third round of the Wimbledon for the sixth straight season. However, that doesn’t mean that Djokovic’s issues in his latest match shouldn’t go ignored, as he usually cruises through the competition early in a Grand Slam. Djokovic really had a hard time with the serve-and-volley game of Stepanek. On the flipside, this may inspire the top seeded player to focus even more for this match.

These two players have met seven times in the past, and Djokovic has won six of them. Simon’s only victory over Djokovic came in the 2008 Marseille, which was the first time these two faced one another. The last time these two met was in the 2010 Davis Cup Final, a match that was decided in three sets. This will be the first meeting between the two on grass.

With the way Simon has struggled this year, it’s impossible not to pick Djokovic to win this match convincingly. A quick match should be expected.
