Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

2014 Wimbledon: Sunday, July 6, 2014 (London)

The Line: Novak Djokovic See the Latest Odds

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will meet Sunday in what should be a classic 2014 Wimbledon final.

Federer must be drinking from the fountain of youth, as he returns to his first Grand Slam final since the 2012 Wimbledon and is looking for his eighth title at this tournament. Federer has given himself a fighting chance by winning all but one of his matches in three sets. The only person to take a set from Federer has been Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals. Even Federer’s match against Milos Raonic took no more than 10 games each set to be decided. These quick matches is exactly what Federer has needed to be fresh for the next match, as the 32-year-old can’t hang in these marathon matches the way he used to. Federer has owned the Wimbledon in the past and has a chance to prove he still has something left in the tank.

Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic 2014 Wimbledon Pick, Odds, Prediction

Djokovic hasn’t been as dominant, but he’s still reached his fourth Grand Slam final in his last five events. Unfortunately for Djokovic, he hasn’t won a Grand Slam since the 2013 Australian Open. Djokovic has needed 22 sets to get to this point and five tiebreaks. Grass has never quite been his favorite surface, but Djokovic continues to find ways to win and always rises to the occasion just when you feel the match may be slipping away a bit. Rest may not be as big a deal for Djokovic as it is for his opponent, but you have to wonder if Federer is the guy who can steal the match if the door is left open.

These guys have played one another 34 times and it’ll be the fourth meeting just this year. Federer leads the series 18-16 and has actually won two of their last three meetings, including their most recent at the 2014 Monte Carlo Masters. They’ve also played only one time on grass, which was at the 2012 Wimbledon, a match that Federer won as well.

However, overall, Djokovic has won seven of their last 11 meetings.

Strictly from a value perspective, I’m going with Federer. This is the moment he’s been waiting for the last two years, he’s had recent success against Djokovic and has been playing better tennis as of late. Besides, Djokovic has lost three straight Grand Slam finals.

Give me Federer for the plus money and the storybook ending.
