Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Aleksandr Nedovyesov play in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday.

Aleksandr Nedovyesov really played a solid match in the first round, bouncing back after losing the first set and winning three straight to defeat James McGee. While we haven’t seen much from Nedovyesov this season, he showed a lot of heart and determination in the second and third set, only losing a combined three games in those sets. With that victory, Aleksandr Nedovyesov is now the furthest he has ever been in the US Open, and he’s just one win away from reaching the third round of a grand slam for the first time of his career. Of course, Nedovyesov has a tall order ahead of him, but he certainly has an outside shot of pulling off the upset if he can show the same type of determination he did in the first round.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Aleksandr Nedovyesov 2014 US Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

With a win over Juan Monaco, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has won nine of his last 11 matches and looks to be slowly getting in that elite form that made him a serious threat against anybody he played against. Tsonga won the first and third set, and then simply went to beat the will out of Monaco is the fourth set, 6-1. Tsonga seems to have his power back and the overwhelming confidence that led him to many quarterfinal and semifinal grand slam appearances just a couple of years ago. If Jo-Wilfried Tsonga can continue to limit his mistakes and keep pounding out winners left and right, he’s once again going to be a tough out in this tournament against anyone. However, one thing to point out is the fact Tsonga hasn’t made it out of the second round of the US Open since reaching the quarterfinal in 2011.

These two players have never met on the tennis court.

Right now you’d be a fool to take anybody but Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. His confidence is back and he’s playing that above-average tennis that not too many are capable of beating when needing three sets. Tsonga should win this match rather easily.
