Ivo Karlovic and Andy Murray meet Monday in the fourth round of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Ivo Karlovic is coming off a four set win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, which finished in just under three hours. Karlovic has played 13 sets this tournament and more than nine hours of tennis. Karlovic is winning at least 87 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Karlovic has combined for 94 aces and 176 winners in his last two matches. Karlovic is putting up jaw-dropping stats, as he’s hitting the mark every time and leaving his opponent very little room for error. Karlovic has a shot to beat anyone in the tournament if he can keep playing at this insane level. Karlovic has only surpassed the fourth round of a grand slam once, which was the 2009 Wimbledon. This is Karlovic’s first fourth round appearance in a grand slam since 2010.
USA TODAY Sports
Andy Murray is fresh off a four set win over Andreas Seppi, which finished in just over two hours. Murray has played 10 sets this tournament and a little over five and a half hours of tennis. Murray is winning at least 70 percent of his first serve points and 48 percent of his second serve points. Murray has combined for 15 aces and 57 winners in his last two matches. Murray has kept his unforced errors under 20 in two of his three matches, and he’s finishing his points rather quickly. So far, Murray has given us no reason to worry, as he looks comfortable out there and is in good form. Murray hasn’t lost in the fourth round of a grand slam since the 2010 French Open. Murray has made at least the quarterfinals of every Wimbledon since 2008.
These two have played five times in the past, and Murray has won all five meetings. The most recent match was in the 2012 Tokyo Outdoor, a match Murray won in straight sets. The good news for Karlovic is that he has won three sets against Murray. This will be their second time meeting on grass.
We all know Murray’s history on this court, but Karlovic is playing out of his mind right now and absolutely killing his service game and winners overall. Karlovic has more than 250 winners in three matches! I see a good chance for an upset, which is why I’m taking the points and laying a little on the moneyline.
