Serena Williams and Venus Williams meet in the fourth round of the 2015 Wimbledon.
Serena Williams is coming off a long, draining three set match against Heather Watson. Serena showed signs of her recent poor form, as she got just 57 percent of her first serves in play and made 33 unforced errors. Serena also won just 41 percent of her second serve points, a number that should be concerning moving forward. Still, Serena has combined for 28 aces this tournament and has won at least 71 percent of her first serve points in her first two matches. The close call in the third round could have also woken Serena up to get her back on track to playing elite level tennis that’s been inconsistent as of late. Serena has lost three times in the fourth round of a grand slam since 2012, which includes the 2013 Wimbledon.

Venus Williams is fresh off a straight sets win over Aleksandra Krunic, which went just over an hour. Venus has yet to lose a set this tournament and is winning at least 71 percent of her first serve points. Venus has also won 73 percent of her second point serves in two of her three matches. Venus has combined for 17 aces, 79 winners and has produced less than 20 unforced errors in two of her first three matches. Venus also has fatigue on her side, as she’s played just over three hours of tennis so far. Now the question is if Venus can continue to play at this level despite age clearly catching up to her at 35. Venus has surpassed the fourth round of a grand slam just once since 2011, which was this year’s Australian Open.
These two have played 25 times in the past, and Serena has won 14 of those meetings. The most recent meeting was in the 2014 Canadian Masters, a match Venus won in three sets. Serena has won six of the last nine matches. This will be the sixth time they meet on grass, and Serena has won three of those first five meetings.
Of course I like Serena to win this match, but it’s always tricky when she’s playing her sister, as she has been known to take it easy at times. Serena hasn’t dominated Venus over the years like she should. Because of that, I’m siding with the over in this match.
