Simona Halep is coming off a three set win over Victoria Azarenka and has played 12 sets this tournament. Halep is winning at least 56 percent of her first serve points and 29 percent of her second serve points. Halep has combined for five aces, 70 winners and 61 unforced errors in her last three matches. Halep can certainly improve her service game, as it’s been hit or miss this tournament and she’s coming off a match where she won just 29 percent of her second serve. Halep is also coming off a lengthy match that lasted even longer due to a rain delay. However, Halep looks healthy despite a leg injury and is will continue to fight hard like she always does. This is Halep’s third grand slam semifinal appearance since 2014. Halep hopes to make her second grand slam final of her career.
These two have played four times, and Pennetta leads the series 3-1. Halep beat Pennetta in their most recent match, which came in this year’s Miami Masters. Three of the four matches have been decided in straight sets, and Pennetta’s wins over Halep came in 2013 or earlier. This will be the third time Pennetta and Halep meet on hard court.
You guys should know by now that I’m a huge fan of Halep. Halep is a star in the making and is starting to really rise to the occasion in big moments. I only picked Azarenka in the last match simply because we didn’t know Halep’s health with her banged up leg. However, she looks fine.
Pennetta is no slouch and will put up a fight. But in the end, Halep is too much and will find a way to win this match.
