Angelique Kerber vs. Madison Keys

March, 2016 Miami Masters

The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

Madison Keys and Angelique Kerber meet Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters.

Madison Keys is coming off a straight sets win over Irina-Camelia Begu, which took just 16 games to be decided. Keys looks to be in good form this tournament, winning all of her matches in straight sets and is clearly making up for a disappointing showing at Indian Wells that resulted in a first round exit. Keys has shown many times that she has the potential to be the next great American, but she struggles with consistency at 21 years old. When limiting her errors, Keys is devastating with her power and shotmaking. Unfortunately, Keys so far has been up and down and hasn’t produced a title since 2012. This is the furthest Keys has ever made it in the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters.

Madison Keys vs. Angelique Kerber 2016 Miami Masters Pick, Odds, Prediction

Angelique Kerber is coming off a three set win over Timea Babos and has played six sets in her last two matches. Kerber has really struggled to find her form since winning the Australian Open, and this tournament hasn’t been any different after her last two matches have gone the distance against lower tier players. Still, Kerber is a tough play due to the depth she plays with and the constant angles that keep her opponent on the move. Kerber looks for her third semifinal appearance in the WTA Premier tournaments. Kerber has not reached the semifinal of the Miami Masters, but did reach the quarters in 2014.

These two have met four times in the past, and Kerber has won three of those meetings. The most recent match was in Charleston of last year, a match Kerber won in three sets. Keys only win over Kerber was in Eastbourne in 2014. The last two matches between these two have gone the distance, and this will be the third time these two play on hard court.

This is going to be a fun match, as both girls can really get after it, and the last two matches between them have produced three sets. Kerber is probably the better overall player, but Keys has the power advantage that could give her the advantage in a match that could really go either way.

I’m going with the slight upset by picking the American.
