Dominika Cibulkova and Simona Halep meet Saturday in the 2016 Mutua Madrid Open Final.

Dominika Cibulkova is coming off a straight sets win over Louisa Chirico and has dropped four sets this tournament. Cibulkova reached the final on her birthday and would love nothing more than to win the biggest match of her career the day after she turned 27 years old. Cibulkova has been rolling as of late with wins in 12 of her last 13 matches, which includes just winning the Katowice Open. Cibulkova is clearly playing her best tennis of the season right now and may be playing her best since she was a top-10 player a couple of years ago. This will be the first Premier Mandatory Final appearance for Cibulkova. Cibulkova has never won a final appearance on clay.

Dominika Cibulkova vs. Simona Halep 2016 Madrid Open Final Pick, Odds, Prediction

Simona Halep is coming off a straight sets win over Samantha Stosur and has dropped one set this tournament. Halep has won 12 of her last 16 matches and is just trying to find her footing after suffering some recent upsets. Halep has shown far more consistently throughout this tournament and is hitting the winners we’re used to seeing from the Romanian. When Halep is in one of these grooves, she’s easily a top-three player in the world and someone who is very dangerous to play. This is Halep’s second Madrid Open final appearance and a chance for her to win her second career Premier Mandatory Final. Halep is 3-5 in her career in final appearances on clay court.

These two have played four times in the past, and Cibulkova has won three of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2014 Australian Open, and three of the four matches ended in straight sets. Halep's only win over Cibulkova came in the 2012 Brussels Open.

The history between these two doesn’t mean much considering they haven’t played in a while and Halep has made a drastic jump the past couple of seasons. Cibulkova is clearly in the zone, but Halep is the overall better player and has far more championship experience.

Look for Halep to win the Mutua Madrid Open.
