the Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Jeremy Chardy and Andy Murray square off in the round of 16 in the 2016 Rome Masters.
Jeremy Chardy is coming off a straight sets win over Roberto Bautista Agut and has dropped one set this tournament. Chardy has been hit or miss this season as he’s split his last eight singles matches and hasn’t had any real success since reaching the quarterfinals in Delray Beach. Chardy is more than capable of going on a bit of a hot streak, but he’s only beaten a top-10 player twice since 2014. Chardy has reached the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters just once in his career, which was in 2014. Chardy has reached the quarters of the ATP Masters Series four times.

Andy Murray is coming off a straight sets win over Mikhail Kukushkin that took 18 games to decide. Murray continues to play well heading into the French Open and has won 10 of his last 14 matches. Murray continues to dominate his service game and has been very sharp in his returns, resulting in a lot of quick matches as of late. Murray’s conditioning is also up to par, as he no longer looks like he’s about to fall over like he has in the past. Win or lose this tournament, Murray has to be confident heading into Paris in a week or so. Murray looks to reach the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters for the third time of his career.
These two have met eight times in the past, and Murray has won seven of those meetings. The most recent match was in last year’s French Open, a match Murray won in four sets. Chardy’s only win over Murray came in the 2012 Cincinnati Masters. This will be the third time these two meet on clay court.
Chardy hasn’t shown much recently that makes me believe he can beat a red hot Murray. I think the head to head trends stand here and Murray gets the victory rather easily.
