Virginie Razzano and Caroline Garcia meet Friday in the semifinals of the 2016 Strasbourg Open.
Virginie Razzano is coming off a three set victory over Elena Vesnina that took 23 games to decide. After really struggling this season, this is some of the best success Razzano has had in quite some time. Razzano has struggled big time with consistency and finding her form overall after being a top-20 player back in 2009. Razzano has now won nine of her last 12 matches when you include qualifying, and a win over a top-60 player would certainly provide a confidence boost for the 33-year-old. Razzano has not made a single final since the 2009 AEGON International and is playing in her first semifinal since last years Strasbourg Open.

Caroline Garcia is coming off a walkover against Samantha Stosur and has had to play just four sets this tournament. Garcia has also struggled with her form and has had far more success with doubles this season after winning three titles already this season. Singles wise, Garcia has split her last eight matches and is just trying to find some confidence before the French Open, as she’s struggled big time in her last four major appearances. A win here could get Garcia back on track. Garcia looks to make her fourth finals appearance of her career and first since the 2015 Monterrey Open.
These two have played once in the past, and Razzano won in straight sets in the 2013 Beijing Open. The match took just 14 games to decide. This will obviously be the first time they meet on clay court.
I have to go with Garcia here simply because of the rest factor and she’s shown signs in this tournament of finding her form a bit. Razzano is slowly turning some heads but after another long match against somebody who didn’t have to play yesterday, I’ll take the younger and fresher Garcia.
