Marin Cilic and Marco Trungelliti square off early in the first round of the 2016 French Open.
Marin Cilic enters this tournament with a lot of momentum after playing for the Geneva Open title. Cilic took a lot of time off, as it was his first tournament since Miami, so he should be well rested and ready to make a deep run in the French Open. Cilic is doing a good job of finishing his points quickly and is dominating his service game. Cilic has had his fair share of hiccups this season, but he’s clearly ironed out his game recently and will be a tough out this tournament. Cilic hasn’t lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2011 Wimbledon. Cilic has been eliminated in the first round of the French Open twice in his career.

Marco Trungelliti is coming off a straight sets win over Thomas Fabbiano to qualify for his spot in this tournament. Trungelliti has won eight of his last 12 matches when you include qualifying, and he did play Andrey Kuznetsov had for 20 games in Indian Wells. Trungelliti is playing with house money given his lack of experience on the ATP level and the fact he really has nothing to lose considering his current ranking of 167 in the world. This will be Trungelliti’s first time playing in the French Open. Trungelliti did manage to advance to the second round of this year's Australian Open with a victory over Jozef Kovalik.
This will be the first time Trungelliti and Cilic meet on the tennis court.
Cilic has found his form again and is fresh with not a ton of recent matches under his belt. Due to a lack of overall experience on the big stage, Trungelliti will have a hard time winning more than six games.
Cilic wins this match in convincing fashion.
