Novak Djokovic and Yen-Hsun Lu square off in the first round of the 2016 French Open.

Novak Djokovic heads into the French Open as the overall favorite to hoist the trophy, and for good reason. Djokovic has won 13 of his last 15 matches and has made the final in five straight grand slam appearances. Djokovic continues to prove he’s the best player in the world and not too many opponents have a chance against him when healthy. However, Djokovic has been dealing with a left ankle injury, so it will be interesting to see his movement in the first couple of matches. Djokovic has not lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2006 Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic vs. Yen-Hsun Lu 2016 French Open Pick, Odds, Prediction

Yen-Hsun Lu is coming off a quarterfinal appearance in the Bangkok 3 Challenger and has won eight of his last 11 singles matches. Lu has spent a lot of time in Challenger play but did reach the quarterfinals in Beijing last season. Lu’s highest career ranking was 33rd back in 2010. Lu isn’t a big fan of clay court and has lost six of his last eight matches on the surface. Lu has lost in the first round of a grand slam in five of his last seven appearances. Lu does have seven career wins over top-10 players but none since 2014.

These two met once, which was in the 2010 Wimbledon, which Djokovic won in straight sets. Lu won seven games in that match. This will obviously be the first time these two meet on clay court.

Lu is more effective on hard court than he is clay, and he doesn’t have the athleticism anymore at 32 to hang with a Djokovic. This match should end rather quickly in three sets.

Djokovic rolls easily.
