Serena Williams and Teliana Pereira meet in the second round of the 2016 French Open.
Serena Williams is coming off a straight sets win over Magdalena Rybarikova that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Serena won 88 percent of her first serve points and 71 percent of her second serve points. Serena finished the match with just five unforced errors and won the last set 6-0. If Serena continues to get 77 percent of her first serves in play, she’s not losing a match this tournament. Serena appears to be in elite form and she’s won six straight matches when you include her Rome Masters title. Serena is peaking at the right time and hasn’t lost a set since her loss to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Miami Masters. Serena hasn’t been eliminated before the third round of a grand slam since the 2014 Wimbledon.

Teliana Pereira is coming off a three set win over Kristyna Pliskova that took 37 games to decide. In the victory, Pereira won 63 percent of her first serve points and 54 percent of her second serve points. Pereira was able to survive a long match that took 16 games to finish the third set. Pereira needed a feel good victory after really struggling this season and dropping big time in the rankings. Pereira was a top-50 player last year and would love to find some consistency to get back to that point. Pereira has one career win over a top-10 player, which came last year against Francesca Schiavone. Pereira has never reached the third round of a grand slam.
This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.
Pereira is a respectable second round opponent and can’t be overlooked given her success on the ITF level and her top-50 ranking late last season. However, Serena is a machine at the moment and is back to not giving away games. This should be another quick two set match.
Serena rolls into the third round.
