Troicki vs. Simon
the Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Gilles Simon and Viktor Troicki square off early in the third round of the 2016 French Open.
Gilles Simon is coming off a five set win over Guido Pella that took 52 games to decide. In the victory, Simon won 67 percent of his first serve points and 42 percent of his second serve points. Simon was able to bounce back after losing the first two sets and even won a fourth set tiebreak. Due to the early struggles, Simon has now racked up 63 unforced errors in this tournament and has won 53 percent or less of his second serve points. Simon can clearly play better tennis, but he has won eight of his last 12 matches and usually thrives on clay. Simon has reached the fourth round of a grand slam in four of his last six appearances.

Viktor Troicki is coming off a victory over Dusan Lajovic once he retired after the third set. In the victory, Troicki won 71 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Troicki looks sharp, as he’s gotten no less than 60 percent of his first serves in play and has produced 30 winners in each of his first two matches. The concern with Troicki is that he’s also racked up 104 unforced errors this tournament, a number that has to be cut in half if he has any chance of advancing. Still, Troicki has looked sharp overall and is probably coming off his best match since his Miami win over Inigo Cervantes. Troicki has reached the fourth round of a grand slam three times since the 2012 season.
These two have played six times in the past, and Simon won all meetings in straight sets. The most recent match was in this year's Monte Carlo Masters. That was the only match between these two since 2011, and this will be the fourth match on clay court.
Given the history between these two, how in the hell can you not pick Simon to win this match?
Simon has dominated Troicki throughout their careers to the point he hasn’t lost a set. Add in his current form and you have to side with Simon.
