Novak Djokovic and Aljaz Bedene square off in the third round of the 2016 French Open.
Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Steve Darcis that took 31 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 67 percent of his first serve points and 57 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic had 42 unforced errors in the three set win, a number he can’t be pleased with, but he’s still finding ways to win rather easily. Djokovic now has lost just 18 games in his first two matches and is getting no less than 67 percent of his first serves in play. Djokovic doesn’t look like his ankle is bothering him at all. Djokovic has reached at least the fourth round of a grand slam every year since the 2009 French Open.

Aljaz Bedene is coming off a five set win over Pablo Carreno Busta that took 52 games to decide. In the victory, Bedene won 80 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Bedene has been absolutely dominant when he gets his first serve in play, but the problem is he’s hitting them at a 64 percent or less clip. Bedene has shown great fight this tournament and looks like someone who wants to get back in the top-50 in the world. Bedene has to be more consistent with his first serve to have any shot. Bedene is 3-8 against top-10 players throughout his career. Bedene has never reached the fourth round of a grand slam.
These two have met once in the past, which was in the 2015 Australian Open, a match Djokovic won in three sets. The match took 27 games to decide.
Bedene is a fighter and can drag matches out when he’s owning his service game. However, he’s no match for a healthy Djokovic who has his eyes on his first French Open crown. This should be another three setter for the best player in the world.
Djokovic easily moves to the fourth round.
