Carla Suarez Navarro and Yulia Putintseva clash in the fourth round of the 2016 French Open.
Carla Suarez Navarro is coming off a three set win over Dominika Cibulkova that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Suarez Navarro won 63 percent of her first serve points and 28 percent of her second serve points. Suarez Navarro was lucky to win her third round match due to her poor serve percentage and the fact she racked up 48 unforced errors. Still, Suarez Navarro was able to buckle down and win the final set 6-1. Suarez Navarro is getting no less than 60 percent of her first serves in play and has been dominant in sets she’s won this tournament. Suarez Navarro hopes to make the quarterfinals of a grand slam for the third time since the 2014 season.

Yulia Putintseva is coming off a straight sets win over Karin Knapp that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Putintseva won 69 percent of her first serve points and 78 percent of her second serve points. Putintseva has yet to drop a set this tournament and has played just 30 games in her last two matches. Putintseva has lost no more than two games in a single set, and she has just 29 unforced errors this whole tournament. Putintseva is playing some of the best tennis of her life and will continue to fly up the rankings if she can hold this current form. This will be the first time Putintseva has played in the fourth round of a grand slam.
These two have met once, which was in the 2013 Australian Open, a match Suarez Navarro won in three sets. The match took 28 games to decide. This will obviously be the first time these two meet on clay court.
You have to be impressed with the way Putintseva has been playing this tournament, as she’s lost eight games in three matches. Impressive stuff from the 21-year-old. But you guys know I’m a fan of experience, and Suarez Navarro is not only becoming a consistent grand slam player, but her favorite surface is clay court.
I’ll give the edge to Suarez Navarro in this match. But Putintseva is somebody to watch moving forward.
