Sela vs. Ferrer
The Line: Sela +230 / Ferrer -275 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
David Ferrer and Dudi Sela square off early in the round of 16 at the 2016 Ricoh Open.
David Ferrer enters this match in solid form after making the fourth round of the French Open and winning seven of his last 10 matches. Ferrer has cleaned up his unforced errors as of late and is serving far more consistent than he has in the past. Ferrer has been rather consistent this season but is still searching for that big tournament run after not reaching a final since last years Vienna Open. This is a clear chance for Ferrer to kind of get over that hump and make a run at what would be his 27th career title. Ferrer has split his last 10 matches on grass court and has played just one grass court match since 2015.
USA TODAY Sports
Dudi Sela is coming off a three set win over Dennis Novikov that took 38 games to decide. Sela served very well in the victory that forced two tiebreaks and each player to win seven games to decide each set. Sela is just trying to get back on track, as he’s split his last 12 matches but has been very consistent lately in Challenger play. However, it’s been awhile since Sela has had any real success on the ATP level (a third round appearance at this year's Australian Open), so a victory over a top-15 player would certainly be good for his confidence. Sela has won seven of his last 10 matches on grass court, which includes reaching this year's Karshi Challenger Final.
These two split the two previous meetings against one another, as Sela won the 2008 China Open and Ferrer won the 2009 SA Tennis Open. Both matches were decided in straight sets, and this will be the first match on grass.
With Ferrer being in his current form, he should be able to win this match in straight sets. Sela is a shotmaker, but he’s not consistent and doesn’t appear to be in great enough form to pull off what would be an impressive upset.
Give me Ferrer to win this match in straight sets.
