Elena Vesnina is coming off a straight sets win over Dominika Cibulkova that took an hour and 15 minutes. In the victory, Vesnina won 26 of 33 first serve points and racked up 22 winners and 10 unforced errors. Vesnina continues to be the cinderella of this tournament, as she previously never made it past the fourth round of a grand slam. Vesnina has dropped just one set overall and has produced a ridiculous 74 winners in her last two matches. Vesnina has put herself on the map with this impressive performance. Vesnina hopes to make her first career grand slam final. Vesnina has won eight of her last nine matches on grass.
These two have met four times in the past and Serena has won all four meetings in straight sets. The most recent match was in the 2013 Beijing Open. This will be the first match on grass.
The head to head is downright ugly and it’s no secret Serena is the far better player in this match. Vesnina just doesn't have the game or the experience in big matches to trip up a motivated Serena who is hungry to win her 22nd grand slam. Still, it was a successful tournament for Vesnina.
Give me Serena in straight sets.
