The Line -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori square off in the semifinals of the 2016 Rogers Cup.
Stan Wawrinka is coming off a straight sets win over Kevin Anderson that took 16 games to be decided. Wawrinka has yet to lose a set this tournament and seems to be back on track after some disappointing showings as of late. Wawrinka is deadly when he’s holding serve and hitting his winners at a high percentage. However, when those unforced errors creep in, Wawrinka is stubborn at times to make adjustments and matches get away from him. Either way, Wawrinka hopes to make his fourth final appearance this season and has split his last 10 semifinal appearances overall. Wawrinka has also won 10 of his last 12 matches on hard court.

Kei Nishikori is coming off a three set win over Grigor Dimitrov that took 25 games to decide. Nishikori was able to battle back and beat a decent player, so it may be clear his recent injury issues are a thing of the past. Nishikori hasn’t been making many unforced errors, which makes him very tough to beat with his shotmaking ability. Nishikori has to be very confident heading into this match given his current form. Nishikori hopes to make his fourth final appearance this season and has split his last eight semifinal appearances overall. Nishikori has won 12 of his last 14 matches on hard court.
These two have played four times in the past and Wawrinka has won three of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2015 Australian Open, a match Wawrinka won in straight sets. Nishikori’s only win over Wawrinka came in the 2014 US Open. This will be the fourth match on hard court.
I think the history between these two speaks for itself and when both are in solid form, Wawrinka has the advantage with his powerful shot making. We’ve made a lot of money backing Nishikori and his athleticism gives him a chance against anybody, but he’s going to have a hard time keeping up with Wawrinka.
I'm siding with Wawrinka in this match.
