Andy Murray vs. Juan Martin Del Potro 2016 Olympics Gold Medal Match Pick, Odds, Prediction

Juan Martin Del Potro is coming off the a three set victory over Rafael Nadal that took 35 games to decide. Del Potro looks as healthy as he has in quite some time and managed to survive a classic third set against one of the greatest of all time. Del Potro is hitting his shots with confidence and making very little errors, putting extreme pressure on his opponent. It’s nice to see the 27-year-old in this form and playing with consistency after an up-and-down career. Del Potro is guaranteed to win a second olympic medal after winning bronze in 2012. Del Potro also has a chance to become the first singles player from Argentina to win gold. Del Potro has won 10 of his last 13 matches on hard court.

These two have played seven times in the past and Murray has won five of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2013 Indian Wells Masters, a match Del Potro won in three sets. Murray is 4-1 against Del Potro on hard court.

I’ve been picking against Del Potro for much of this tournament and he’s consistently proved me wrong. However, I’ve also been backing Murray for months and have been the driver of the bandwagon, and it’s paid off and then some. Murray is in the best form I’ve ever seen from him.

So, give me Murray to win his second gold medal.
