Denis Shapovalov and Alexander Zverev meet Saturday in the semifinals of the 2017 Rogers Cup.

Denis Shapovalov is coming off a three sets win over Adrian Mannarino that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Shapovalov won 67 percent of his first serve points and 53 percent of his second serve points. Shapovalov continues to be the surprise of the tournament, as the 18-year-old is experiencing his most successful tournament that includes wins over Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro. Shapovalov is the youngest player ever to reach a Masters 1000 semifinal. Shapovalov isn’t playing completely flawless tennis, but he keeps coming away with the big points, hits impressive winners and is feeding off the Canadian crowd that provides that extra boost. Shapovalov is oozing with confidence right now, and that’s scary for a young player. Shapovalov hopes to make his first ever ATP final appearance. Shapovalov has won seven of his last eight matches on hard court.

Denis Shapovalov vs. Alexander Zverev 2017 Rogers Cup Semifinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Alexander Zverev is coming off a straight sets win over Kevin Anderson that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 75 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Zverev has won his last five sets and is coming off a match in which he won 67 percent of his total serve points and produced three breaks. Zverev is simply playing with great confidence right now and no longer has the dips in his game that he had last season. Zverev expects to win every time he takes the court and has shown he can win with defense as well as his shotmaking ability and big serve. At 20 years old, Zverev is quickly finding himself and rising rapidly up the rankings with these final appearances. Zverev hopes to make his sixth final appearance of the year and his ninth for his career. Zverev has won five of his last six semifinal matches. Zverev has won eight straight matches on hard court.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

You can’t put anything past Shapovalov, as he has shown the ability to hit winners and did beat Nadal. The crowd also gives Shapovalov a big boost that takes his game to another level. However, Shapovalov looked gassed at times during his quarterfinal match and conditioning could be an issue for somebody with so little ATP matches under his belt. Also, Zverev has been playing terrific tennis all season long.

Zverev wins in straight sets.
