USA TODAY Sports

Garbine Muguruza is coming off a straight sets win over Magdalena Rybarikova that took 14 games to decide. In the victory, Muguruza won 64 percent of her first serve points and 67 percent of her second serve points. Muguruza has dropped a combined nine games in her first three matches and is coming off a match in which she won 66 percent of her return points. Muguruza has now won her last 11 sets played and has clearly found her comfort zone as she searches for her second grand slam title of the season. Consistency has been an issue for Muguruza, but when she’s playing like this, few can beat her. Muguruza hopes to make her seventh career grand slam quarterfinal. Muguruza has won eight straight matches on hard court.

These two have played three times and Kvitova has won two of those meetings. The most recent match was in the 2016 Beijing Open, a match Kvitova won in straight sets. Muguruza’s only win over Kvitova came in the 2015 WTA Championships.

This could be a fun match with Kvitova slowly finding her rhythm and controlling the pace with those deep shots. And given the head to head numbers, she has a chance at a victory. However, betting against Muguruza in a grand slam when she’s playing like this isn’t a smart idea. We’re talking about somebody who isn’t dropping sets at the moment let alone matches. Muguruza is the best player in the tournament in her current form.

Muguruza wins in two competitive sets.
