The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Roger Federer and Philipp Kohlschreiber meet in the fourth round of the 2017 US Open.
Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over Feliciano Lopez that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Federer won 85 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Federer is coming off his best match yet after a couple of marathon matches, and he sprayed 32 winners while losing just seven of 46 first serve points. Federer will need more matches like that if he hopes to win his third slam of the year, as he can’t continue to go the distance at his age even if he’s still finding ways to pull out the victory. Federer needs another painless match with the competition increasing rapidly. Federer hopes to make a grand slam quarterfinal for the eighth straight try and his 12th ever US Open quarterfinal trip. Federer has won 10 of his last 11 matches on hard court.

Philipp Kohlschreiber is coming off a straight sets win over John Millman that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Kohlschreiber won 83 percent of his first serve points and 49 percent of his second serve points. Kohlschreiber has had a rather easy time making the fourth round, and he’s coming off a solid showing in which he sprayed 44 winners in three sets. Kohlschreiber has shown his shotmaking skills within the first three rounds, but he has to be far more efficient with his serve if he hopes to see another day. This is the fourth time Kohlschreiber has made the fourth round of the US Open. Kohlschreiber hopes to make his second career grand slam quarterfinal and first since the 2012 Wimbledon. Kohlschreiber has won five of his last seven matches on hard court.
These two have played 11 times in the past and Federer has won every match. The most recent match was in 2015 and this will be the seventh meeting on hard court. Out of every match, Kohlschreiber has been able to win three sets against Federer.
Federer hasn’t played his sharpest tennis yet, leaving the door open for an upset if somebody plays out of their mind. However, Kohlschreiber isn’t that guy. He’s had zero success against Federer in the past and numbers like that matter in grand slam play where everybody is at their most focused.
Federer reaches another grand slam quarterfinal.
