TV: ESPN

Karolina Pliskova and Coco Vandeweghe meet in the quarterfinals of the 2017 US Open.

Karolina Pliskova is coming off a straight sets win over Jennifer Brady that took 13 games to decide. In the victory, Pliskova won 92 percent of her first serve points and 42 percent of her second serve points. Pliskova is coming off a simply flawless match in which she lost just two of 24 first serve points and dropped just one game. Pliskova won 68 percent of her return points in the victory and has combined for 56 winners in her last two matches. If Pliskova can bottle that performance for another three matches, she’ll win her first grand slam title in easy fashion. Pliskova hopes to make her third career grand slam semifinal and second in the US Open. Pliskova is 2-1 in career grand slam quarterfinal matches. Pliskova has won seven of her last eight matches on hard court.

Karolina Pliskova vs. Coco Vandeweghe 2017 US Open Quarterfinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Coco Vandeweghe is coming off a straight sets win over Lucie Safarova that took 23 games to decide. In the victory, Vandeweghe won 69 percent of her first serve points and 66 percent of her second serve points. Vandeweghe played an extremely clean match in which she took care of her service game, kept her emotions in check and did a great job of winning all of the big points, including a second set tiebreak. Vandeweghe is slowly starting to tap into her potential at 25 years old, and she’s going to be very tough to beat if she can keep her unforced error total under 20, like she did in her last match. Vandeweghe hopes to make her second career grand slam semifinal and first since this years Australian Open. Vandeweghe is 1-2 in career grand slam quarterfinal matches. Vandeweghe has won seven of her last 10 matches on hard court.

These two have split their previous four matches, and the most recent match was in this years Stuttgart Open, a match Pliskova won in straight sets. They have split their two matches on hard court.

Vandeweghe has the ability to win this match and will have help from the home crowd. However, Pliskova is coming off the best performance of the tournament and her power game fits well with what Vandeweghe wants to do. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on Vandeweghe to play another clean match and any slip in her game will result in a loss. I’d love to see Vandeweghe get the upset and push for a title on American soil, but Pliskova has the edge here and should be a considerable favorite.

I’m siding with Pliskova in two tight sets.
