Coco Vandeweghe and Madison Keys meet in the semifinals of the 2017 US Open.

Coco Vandeweghe is coming off a straight sets win over Karolina Pliskova that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Vandeweghe won 81 percent of her first serve points and 40 percent of her second serve points. Vandeweghe is coming off possibly the biggest win of her career in which she dropped just 10 of 53 first serve points and won 37 percent of her return points against arguably the best server in women’s tennis. Vandeweghe is doing a much better job of putting mistakes and errors behind her and focusing on the next point, which is the reason for his breakout performances this season. You’d like to see Vandeweghe clean up on 32 unforced errors she had in her last match, but this is easily the best we’ve seen her play yet. Vandeweghe hopes to make her first career grand slam final and is 0-1 in grand slam semifinal appearances. Vandeweghe has won nine of her last 12 matches on hard court.

Coco Vandeweghe vs. Madison Keys 2017 US Open Semifinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Madison Keys is coming off a straight sets win over Kaia Kanepi that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Keys won 79 percent of her first serve points and 60 percent of her second serve points. Keys has dropped just two sets this tournament and is coming off a match in which she got 72 percent of her first serves in play. Keys is doing a wonderful job of controlling the pace of her matches and making her opponent uncomfortable with constant power shots. Keys has also combined for 98 winners in her last three matches, proving she controls when the point is going to end most of the time. At 22 years old, we’re finally starting to see just how good Keys can be, as it’s no longer talks simply based off her potential. Keys hopes to make her first career grand slam final and is 0-1 in grand slam semifinal appearances. Keys has won 11 of her last 12 matches on hard court.

These two have played twice and Keys has won both meetings. The most recent match was in this years Cincinnati Masters, a match Keys won in three sets. The other match was in Stanford of this year, a match Keys won in straight sets. This is obviously their third meeting on hard court.

Both players are playing some of their best and most consistent tennis, so this should be a wonderful match. However, Keys has been in another gear this tournament and has better tools to win a match like this, as she can control the pace with her power and hit through Vandeweghe. CoCo won’t be able to handle the speed Keys plays with on this court and the ability to end things on her terms will be the difference. Not to mention Keys has been far more relaxed this tournament and you get the feeling she’s in her zone right now where nothing can stop her.

Keys reaches her first grand slam final appearance.
