Pablo Carreno Busta and Kevin Anderson meet in the semifinals of the 2017 US Open.

Pablo Carreno Busta is coming off a straight sets win over Diego Sebastian Schwartzman that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Carreno Busta won 65 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Carreno Busta has yet to drop a set this tournament and is coming off a match in which he won 49 percent of his return points. Carreno Busta has both his serve and return working for him, and he’s produced a combined 87 winners in his last three matches. While he’s had very little grand slam success in his career, Carreno Busta has to like his chances here given his current form and the fact he’s dominated all of his recent opponents. Carreno Busta has a chance to make his first ever grand slam final appearance. Carreno Busta has won seven of his last nine matches on hard court.

Pablo Carreno Busta vs. Kevin Anderson 2017 US Open Semifinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Anderson is coming off a four sets win over Sam Querrey that took 48 games to decide. In the victory, Anderson won 82 percent of his first serve points and 60 percent of his second serve points. Anderson continues to be dominant with his service game, and he’s coming off a match in which he hit 67 winners and won 99 of 147 first serve points. It just puts a ton of pressure on his opponent to play perfect tennis, as it’s nearly impossible to break Anderson’s serve, and he’s even tougher in tiebreaks. As long as Anderson doesn’t get fatigued due to lengthy matches and tiebreaks, he has to like his chances to advance to the final because of his service game being so elite. Anderson hopes to make his first career grand slam final appearance. Anderson has won eight of his last 10 matches on hard court.

These two have played twice and Anderson has won both meetings. The most recent match was in this years Canadian Masters, a match Anderson won in straight sets. The other match was in 2013, a match Anderson also won in straight sets.

Give Carreno Busta credit for making it this far in the tournament and you could make an argument against Anderson given his lengthy quarterfinal match. But Anderson should win this match given his overwhelming power, dominating serve and his shotmaking ability overall. Not to mention experience matters as well.

This is Anderson’s match to lose, and I see him getting the job done.
