Karolina Pliskova is coming off a straight sets win over Qiang Wang that took 15 games to decide. In the victory, Pliskova won 67 percent of her first serve points and 77 percent of her second serve points. Pliskova played a much cleaner match in her recent victory in which she won 73 percent of her total service points. Of course, the serve is key with Pliskova, as she’s going to win damn near every match she plays as long as she’s hitting her spots and getting so many free points. These fast hard courts are built for Pliskova’s game, and it’s why she’s had a boatload of success on this surface this season. Pliskova is now in the quarterfinals for a fifth straight tournament. Pliskova has lost five of her last eight quarterfinal matches and hopes to reach her eighth semifinal of the season. Pliskova has won seven of her last nine matches on hard court.
These two have split their previous two meetings, as Pliskova won in Nottingham in 2016, and Barty won in challenger play in 2012. This will be the first match between these two on hard court.
Barty is coming off a solid performance and has a chance to make this thing competitive if she continues to get her first serve in play. Taking the spread with Barty may be worth a look. However, as far as picking a winner, you can’t bet against Pliskova, as she’s too powerful and puts too much pressure on her opponent given her unbreakable serve. Barty seems outmatched in this contest.
Look for Pliskova to win in straight sets.
