Aryna Sabalenka and Sara Errani meet in the semifinals of the 2017 Tianjin Open.

Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a straight sets win over Lin Zhu that took 19 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 62 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka has won all six sets this tournament and has dropped no more than four games in a single set. Sabalenka has been returning the ball very well this tournament and that gives her a shot in this match. This is obviously the breakthrough tournament for the 19-year-old Sabalenka, but it’s going to be interesting to see how she handles increased competition. Sabalenka has lost five of her last seven semifinal appearances. Sabalenka looks to make her first ever WTA final appearance. Sabalenka has won six of her last eight matches on hard court.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Sara Errani 2017 Tianjin Open Semifinal Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Sara Errani is coming off a three sets win over Christina McHale that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Errani won 52 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points. Errani just wouldn’t go away in her quarterfinal victory and after winning a second set tiebreak, she won the final set by an impressive score of 6-1. Errani hasn’t had much success the last couple of years, but that victory was impressive no matter how you slice it, as McHale is a respectable opponent and she could have easily folded at any point in that match. However, Errani’s service numbers have to improve if she hopes to make a final appearance. Errani has lost five of her last six semifinal appearances. Errani looks to make her first final appearance of the season and first since last years Dubai Tennis Championships. Errani has won six of her last seven matches on hard court.

This will be the first time these two meet on the tennis court.

This is a tough match to call given that Sabalenka has very little experience on the WTA tour and Errani is coming off a draining match that she could have easily lost. I’m going to side with Sabalenka, as she’s been the sharper player this tournament and has less wear and tear up to this point. Also, I’m not sure I trust Errani after she struggled to hold serve and was so up-and-down.

I wouldn’t be shocked either way, but I’m leaning with a Sabalenka victory.
