Pablo Carreno Busta and Alexander Zverev meet in the semifinals of the tennis 2018 Miami Open.

Pablo Carreno Busta is coming off a three sets win over Kevin Anderson that took 35 games to decide. In the victory, Carreno Busta won 70 percent of his first serve points and 53 percent of his second serve points. Carreno Busta found a way to beat Anderson despite being broken three times and managed to win a three set tiebreak, most probably didn’t have him winning. Carreno Busta has been serving extremely well this tournament and seems like a player who is gaining confidence when going up against quality players. Carreno Busta hopes to make if first final appearance since the 2017 Estoril Open and his first ever ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final appearance. Carreno Busta has lost four of his last six semifinal appearances. Carreno Busta has won nine of his last 11 matches on hard court.

USA TODAY Sports

Alexander Zverev is coming off a straight sets win over Borna Coric that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 83 percent of his first serve points and 65 percent of his second serve points. Zverev lost just six of his 36 first serve points and wasn’t broken once in his quarterfinal victory. Zverev has won each of his last six sets played and looks fresh out there, as he’s covering a ton of ground and playing with some pep in his step. Zverev hopes to make his 10th career final and his first final appearance since last years Canadian Open. Zverev hopes to make his third career ATP World Tour Masters 1000 appearance as well. Zverev has split his last six semifinal matches. Zverev has won seven of his last nine matches on hard court.

This will be the first meeting between these two players.

Carreno Busta is playing solid, confident tennis in this tournament, but the bottom line is he’s better on clay than he is on hard court. He doesn’t have the shotmaking or the movement to compete with a guy like Zverev on this surface. Not to mention Zverev is hitting his spots right now and was lights out with his first serve, which is key in his victories. This is going to be a tough match for the Spaniard, a match he’s going to struggle to compete in if we’re being honest.

Zverev wins this match in straight sets.
