TV: ESPN

John Isner and Alexander Zverev meet in the final of the 2018 tennis Miami Open.

John Isner is coming off a straight sets win over Juan Martin Del Potro that took 20 games to decide. In the victory, Isner won 83 percent of his first serve points and 79 percent of his second serve points. Isner dropped just nine service points in his semifinal victory and hasn’t been broken once in each of his last three matches. Isner is clearly is in his best form in quite some time and is simply a nightmare to play when he’s hitting his serve. Isner forces his opponent to play perfect tennis, as any break is pretty much giving the set away. Isner hopes to win his 13th career title and first since last years Atlanta Open. Isner has won five of his last eight final appearances and is 8-10 in final appearances on hard court. Isner is 0-3 in his career in final appearances in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000. Isner has won six of his last nine matches on hard court.

John Isner vs. Alexander Zverev 2018 Miami Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

Alexander Zverev is coming off a straight sets win over Pablo Carreno Busta that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 88 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Zverev has won each of his last eight sets and is coming off a match in which he won 78 percent of his total service points. Zverev is building on what was an impressive 2017, and he’s going to be a tough out for anybody when he has the return working along with his powerful serve. Zverev looks a little too comfortable out there right now and is hitting his spots with ease. Zverev hopes to win his seventh career title and first since last years Canadian Open. Zverev has won six of his last seven final appearances and is 4-0 in final appearances on hard court. Zverev is 2-0 in final appearances in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000. Zverev has won eight of his last 10 matches on hard court.

These two have played three times and Zverev has won all three meetings. The most recent match was in the 2017 Rome Masters, a match Zverev won in three sets. Two of the three matches have gone the distance.

Zverev is the more balanced player and has a clear head to head advantage, but I’m not betting against Isner and that serve. The American is bombing his service game right now to the point I’m not trying to step in front of him. Zverev is going to hold his own as well, but he does leave openings now and then and can sprinkle in some double faults once in a while. In long matches that include tiebreaks, I’m not betting against Isner. Not to mention the last two matches between these two could have gone either way.

I like the American to win this match.
