Timea Babos and Garbine Muguruza meet in the final of the 2018 tennis Monterrey Open.

Timea Babos is coming off a three sets win over Sachia Vickery that took 23 games to decide. In the victory, Babos won 72 percent of her first serve points and 52 percent of her second serve points. Babos was dominated in her opening set but managed to buckle down and finished the match winning 65 percent of her service points and 45 percent of her return points. Babos is hitting the ball with great pace and has been able to get easy points with her first serve, which has been deadly for much of the tournament. Babos hopes to win the second title of the year and the fourth title of her career. Babos is 3-2 in final appearances on hard court and 3-4 in final appearances overall. Babos has a chance to become the second player to win this tournament (Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova) at least twice. Babos has won six of her last nine matches on hard court.

USA TODAY Sports

Garbine Muguruza is coming off a straight sets win over Ana Bogdan that took 18 games to decide. In the victory, Muguruza won 72 percent of her first serve points and 58 percent of her second serve points. Muguruza still has yet to drop a set this tournament and has lost a combined eight games in her last two matches. Just pure dominance from Muguruza, as she hopes this can be the turning point to what has been an up and down season overall. While the competition hasn’t been great if we’re being honest, Muguruza looks as sharp as she’s been in a while. Muguruza hopes to win her first title since the 2017 Cincinnati Open and the sixth title of her career. Muguruza is 3-3 in final appearances on hard court and 5-4 in final appearances overall. Muguruza has won six of her last seven matches on hard court.

These two have played four times and Muguruza has won every meeting. The most recent match was in the 2016 Cincinnati Masters, a match Muguruza won in straight sets. Babos has won just one set against Muguruza, and that was in ITF play back in 2011, the first ever set between these two players.

If Muguruza’s current form wasn’t enough to back her, just look at the head to head numbers between these two players. Eight straight sets won for Muguruza, and pretty much all of those sets weren’t competitive. Yes, Babos has great success in this tournament and won it back in 2012, but she’s not the complete player who can knockoff one of the top players in the world when they’re in good form. There’s a reason Babos has just two career wins over top-10 players and only one of them has come in the last three years.

Muguruza wins her first title of the year.
