The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Anett Kontaveit and Caroline Wozniacki meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis Rome Masters.
Anett Kontaveit is coming off a straight sets win over Venus Williams that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Kontaveit won 81 percent of her first serve points and 42 percent of her second serve points. Kontaveit won 70 percent of her total service points and was broken just once in her big third round victory. Kontaveit has now won six straight sets this tournament and has been lights out when getting that first serve in play. If Kontaveit can keep this up, she has a decent chance at the biggest final appearance of her career at 22 years old. Kontaveit has won five of her last seven quarterfinal appearances. Kontaveit has won 11 of his last 14 matches on clay court.

Caroline Wozniacki is coming off a three sets win over Anastasija Sevastova that took 29 games to decide. In the victory, Wozniacki won 60 percent of her first serve points and 58 percent of her second serve points. Wozniacki had to work harder than she probably should have, but she's hitting the ball with great pace at the moment. Wozniacki has been very sharp in her first two matches and is probably playing her best tennis since winning the Australian Open. There was a period where the game dropped off for her, but Wozniacki is back to hitting the ball with confidence, she’s moving well and is dropping some impressive winners as well. Wozniacki has won four of her last six quarterfinal appearances. Wozniacki hopes to make a semifinal trip in four of her last six Premier Mandatory tournament appearances. Wozniacki has won six of her last eight matches on clay court.
These two have played twice and split those meetings. Kontaveit won in the 2016 Nottingham Open and Wozniacki won in the 2017 Wimbledon. Both matches were decided in three sets. This will be the first time these two play on a non grass court.
Kontaveit is playing very well this tournament and now has three wins over a top-10 player this season. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Kontaveit win this match. However, Wozniacki is back to playing with confidence and has that little pep in her step that wasn’t there a couple of weeks ago. Experience also matters once you get deep in big tournaments, and Kontaveit lacks the big match experience.
I’m giving Wozniacki the edge here.
