Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev meet in the final of the 2018 tennis Rome Masters.
Rafael Nadal is coming off a straight sets win over Novak Djokovic that took 22 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 64 percent of his first serve points and 69 percent of his second serve points. Nadal played an overall clean match, winning 66 percent of his service points and produced three crucial breaks. Nadal has now won 22 of his last 25 sets on clay court, and he’s giving his opponents very little chance to get comfortable. We’re honestly running out of things to say about Nadal on this surface, as the guy has been out of this world this season. Nadal hopes to win his third title of the year and the 78th of his career. Nadal has won eight of his last nine final appearances overall and is 55-8 in final appearances on clay. Nadal has a chance to win his eighth career Rome Masters title. Nadal has won 10 of his last 11 matches on clay court.

Alexander Zverev is coming off a straight sets win over Marin Cilic that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 76 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Zverev continues to serve at an elite level and is fresh off a match in which he won 73 percent of his total service points. Zverev and his serve has been the most impressive thing during this impressive streak of his, and he’s been broken just five times in his last four matches. If Zverev can hit the ball with this sort of pace and confidence in this match, he has a chance to pull off the upset. Zverev hopes to win his third title this year and the ninth title of his career. Zverev has won eight of his last 10 final appearances and is 4-1 in final appearances on clay court. Zverev hopes to win his fourth career Masters 1000 title and make it back-to-back titles at the Rome Masters. Zverev has won 13 straight matches on clay court.
These two have played three times and Nadal has won every meeting. The most recent match was in the 2017 Monte Carlo Masters, a match Nadal won in 14 games.
Zverev is playing probably the best tennis of his life and has the raw talent to win this match. But there’s levels to this, and as I’ve said all year, don’t bet against Nadal on clay when he’s playing the way he’s playing. Heck, betting against him in clay finals period isn’t wise considering he’s 55-8 for his career.
Nadal wins another clay title.
