June 2018

The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

TV: Tennis, NBC

Rafael Nadal and Diego Sebastian Schwartzman meet in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tennis French Open.

Rafael Nadal is coming off a straight sets win over Maximilian Marterer that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 70 percent of his first serve points and 61 percent of his second serve points. Nadal won 67 percent of his total service points and managed to win in straight sets again despite being broken twice. Nadal keeps his set streak in this tournament intact and remains the overwhelming favorite to win another French Open title. I’ve honestly run out of things to say about Nadal during this ridiculous clay court stretch. Just know Nadal is playing at a completely different level than the rest of the field right now. Nadal has lost in the quarters of the French Open just once in his career. Nadal hopes to make the semifinals of a grand slam for the fourth time in his last six tries. Nadal has won 12 of his last 15 grand slam quarterfinal appearances. Nadal has won 10 of his last 11 matches on clay court.

Rafael Nadal vs. Diego Sebastian Schwartzman 2018 French Open Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Diego Sebastian Schwartzman is coming off a five sets win over Kevin Anderson that took 48 games to decide. In the victory, Schwartzman won 60 percent of his first serve points and 46 percent of his second serve points. Schwartzman made a tremendous comeback after dropping the first two sets, and he managed to break his opponent 11 times. It’s fair to question how much Schwartzman has left in the tank after such a performance, but he’s now in the quarters of a grand slam for the second time in three tries. Schwartzman needs to be more consistent with his serve, however, if he’s going to stand a chance in this match. Schwartzman now has three career wins over top-10 players, two of which came last year. Schwartzman has a chance to make his first ever grand slam semifinal appearance. Schwartzman has won seven of his last nine matches on clay court.

These two have played five times and Nadal has won all five meetings. The most recent match was in this years Madrid Masters, a match Nadal won in straight sets. Nadal has won 12 of the 13 sets played against Schwartzman.

The history between these two players speaks for itself, especially when they just played each other a few weeks ago. Schwartzman isn’t beating Nadal, and you have to question just how much he has left in the tank after coming back down 0-2 in sets. It takes a ton out of you physically and emotionally to win such a match. Schwartzman is just happy to be in his second career grand slam quarterfinal.

Nadal reaches the semifinals.
