The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Eastbourne International.
Andy Murray is coming off a straight sets win over Stan Wawrinka that took 16 games to decide. In the victory, Murray won 81 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Murray is coming easily the best performance since his return from injury, and he won 67 percent of his total service points. Murray is still going to be battling conditioning issues as he completely makes his return back to the sport, but his first round victory was a positive sign moving forward. As long as Murray plays a clean match without a lot of unforced errors, he’s a threat to beat anybody on any given day. Murray has won six of his last eight matches on grass court.

Kyle Edmund is coming off a second round performance in Queen’s and hopes to build on what was a solid clay season in which he finished with a 10-5 record. Edmund has had a hit or miss season overall, but he continues to be competitive and forces his opponent into these long, drawn out matches due to his quality serving. When Edmund can win 30 percent or better on his return, he gives himself a chance to win matches. The problem is Edmund has struggled with his return as of late and is coming off a match in which he won just 23 of 101 return points, a percentage that’s simply not going to cut it. Edmund has lost four of his last six matches on grass court.
These two have played twice and Murray has won both meetings, both of which took place in 2016.
Edmund simply hasn’t been a great player on grass over the years, as the surface really slows him down and limits his one advantage, his serve. Murray is far from being himself and conditioning is an issue, but his last match provides a great deal of confidence moving forward. As long as he copies that game plan, this match shouldn’t be much of an issue.
Murray advances to the third round.
