Jared Donaldson and Denis Shapovalov meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Eastbourne International.

Jared Donaldson is coming off a three sets win over Taylor Fritz that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Donaldson won 81 percent of his first serve points and 63 percent of his second serve points. Donaldson is coming off a physically draining match that took three sets and two tiebreaks. It was one of Donaldson’s better performances of the season, as this has been a rough year for the American, as he came into this tournament losing six of his last seven matches. Donaldson hasn’t won two matches in a single tournament since the Miami Masters, so this match will be big to see if this can be a turning point in his season. Donaldson has split his last six matches on grass court.

Jared Donaldson vs. Denis Shapovalov 2018 Eastbourne International Tennis Pick, Preview, Odds, Prediction

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Denis Shapovalov heads into this tournament on a three match losing streak and is coming off a straight sets loss to Gilles Muller in Queen’s. In that loss, Shapovalov won just 13 of 73 return points, which simply downright brutal and isn’t good enough to beat anybody in these bigger tournaments. The good news is Shapovalov continues to serve at a very high level and that’s been good enough to keep him in matches. Shapovalov has played a combined five tiebreaks in his last four matches, so as long as he can get something on his return, he has to like his chances to start winning some matches and make deeper runs. Shapovalov has lost four straight matches on grass court.

These two have played once, which was in Delray Beach of this year, a match Shapovalov won in three sets. The match took 33 games to be decided.

Donaldson looked sharp in his last match and has more recent success on grass, but he’s also been in brutal form all year long and hasn’t won two straight matches since Miami. It’s only a matter of time before things start going Shapovalov’s way, as he’s been on the wrong side of some tough results.

Shapovalov wins here.
