Aryna Sabalenka is coming off a straight sets win over Karolina Pliskova that took 30 games to decide. In the victory, Sabalenka won 59 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Sabalenka was able to win a match despite nine double faults, being broken five times and winning less than 60 percent of her first serves. The difference was Sabalenka’s return, as she dominated Pliskova’s second serve and managed to break on four of her 12 break chances. Sabalenka will certainly take the victory, but she has to play much cleaner tennis if she’s going to make the final of what would be her biggest tournament yet. Sabalenka has a chance to make her third career final appearance and first since this years Ladies Open Lugano. Sabalenka has won six of her last eight matches on grass court.
There’s no previous matches between these two players.
Sabalenka is honestly lucky to be here given her recent performance, as you don’t win many matches when being broken five times and struggling mightily with the serve. Radwanska is starting to show flashes of being the Radwanska of old, and if she plays to the level she’s capable of, she curses in this match. Not to mention Radwanska is always solid defensively, so if Sabalenka is going to serve the way she just did, this match will be over quickly.
Radwanska makes her first final in a year and a half.
