Elena Gabriela Ruse vs. Agnieszka Radwanska
The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Agnieszka Radwanska and Elena Gabriela Ruse meet in the first round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.
Agnieszka Radwanska has had her fair share of struggles this season and hasn’t exactly been the player we’ve grown to love over the years. Dealing with some injury issues and not being able to serve well, this isn’t the same Radwanska who has been consistently a top-10 or so player in the world the last few years. The good news is that Radwanska did show flashes in Eastbourne by making it to the semifinals, which includes a straight sets win over Jelena Ostapenko. If Radwanska can be the confident defensive player who has a bit of a pep in her step and build on her last tournament, the Wimbledon could be another turning point in her season. Radwanska hasn’t lost in the first round of a grand slam since the 2015 French Open. Radwanska has won four of her last five matches on grass court.

Elena Gabriela Ruse worked hard to qualify for a rare grand slam appearance and picked up some valuable experience by pushing Magdalena Rybarikova to three sets. Ruse is a 20-year-old Romanian who has little to no experience on the main tour and has made a little over $35,000 in her young career. Ruse has made eight ITF final appearances in her career and has some success in doubles, but she has yet to sustain success as a singles player and will be making her first WTA grand slam appearance. No matter the result, this is much needed experience in order for Ruse to take that next step in her career. Ruse has a chance to make the second round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. Ruse has won five of her last six matches on grass court.
This will be the first ever meeting between these two players.
Once in a while you see young players rise to the occasion and win a grand slam match nobody expected. The difference for those players is that usually they have some sort of experience playing on the main tour. Ruse is so green in terms of competition that it’s hard to really make a case for her here. Not to mention Radwanska is coming off her best tournament in quite some time and is one of the better defensive players in the field when playing well.
If Radwanska loses this match, it would be one of the bigger upsets of the year. Radwanska in straight sets.
