Liam Broady vs. Milos Raonic
The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Milos Raonic and Liam Broady meet in the first round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.
Milos Raonic was building some serious momentum after making the final of the Stuttgart Open, but he was forced to withdraw from Queen's due to a right shoulder injury. Maybe the injury wasn’t serious and he just wanted to make sure he’s fresh for grand slam play. However, Raonic is hard to trust to make a deep tournament run until we know for sure how healthy he is. When healthy, Raonic is one of the better players in the world and capable of being a dark horse grand slam winner. Raonic has made at least the quarterfinals in three of his last four Wimbledon appearances. But until we know for sure that his shoulder is fine, it’s tough to put serious stock into the young Canadian. Raonic has lost in the first round of a grand slam once since 2012. Raonic has won five of his last seven matches on grass court.

Liam Broady enters this tournament with just two matches this season on the main tour and is in a grand slam for the first time since the 2016 Wimbledon. Broady has been a beast in challenger and ITF play the last few years, and he’s also had success in doubles play, but in terms of singles main tour success, he’s experienced little to none. Broady has been effective with his first serve at times and can cause problems when he’s holding serve, but he’s got to play out of this world if he’s going to have success in a match like this one. The one key is Broady will have the crowd behind him, which could help him compete for a set. Broady hopes to make it to the second round of a grand slam for the second time in his career. Broady has lost four straight matches on grass court.
There’s no previous matches between these two players.
I’m going to watch Raonic and his shoulder closely before locking in a future bet, but in terms of this match, he should win rather easily. Broady rarely even plays in grand slam matches and hasn’t played on the main tour much the past couple of years. Banged up Raonic or not, experience alone will get him over the top.
Raonic wins in straight sets.
