TV: ESPN

Juan Martin Del Potro and Feliciano Lopez meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Juan Martin Del Potro is coming off a straight sets win over Peter Gojowczyk that took 28 games to decide. In the victory, Del Potro won 83 percent of his first serve points and 56 percent of his second serve points. Del Potro is coming off a match in which he hit 22 aces and won 75 percent of his total service points. Del Potro looked great in his victory, as he continues to play some of the best tennis of his life and has taken his serving ability to the next level. Del Potro has never been his best on grass, but he’s going to be a tough out as long as he stays in this form. Del Potro hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the seventh time in his last eight tries. Del Potro has won four of his last six matches on grass court.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Feliciano Lopez is coming off a straight sets win over Federico Delbonis that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Lopez won 93 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Lopez dropped just three of 42 first serve points and had just 14 unforced errors in his first round victory. If Lopez can play that clean moving forward, he gives himself an honest shot of making an even deeper tournament run. Lopez came into this tournament with some momentum, making back-to-back quarterfinal trips in Queen’s and Stuttgart, so he is a player to watch in the second round. Lopez has four career wins over top-10 players since last year. Lopez hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the sixth time since 2016. Lopez has won five of his last seven matches on grass court.

These two have played seven times in the past and Del Potro has won four of those matches. The most recent meeting was in the 2013 Cincinnati Masters, a match Del Potro won in three sets. This will be the first match ever not on hard court.

Whatever the over is for this match, I’d consider it given that both guys are serving out of their mind right now. Lopez has found his groove recently and is coming off a match in which he lost just three first serve points. As for who wins this match, you can’t bet against Del Potro in his current form, as he’s been one of the top players in the world and has both his return and serve working at a high level.

Give me Del Potro in three or four competitive sets.
