Karen Khachanov and Marcos Baghdatis meet in the second round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Karen Khachanov is coming off a four sets win over David Ferrer that took 41 games to decide. In the victory, Khachanov won 74 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Khachanov won 70 percent of his total service points and produced 51 winners to make it out of the first round of a grand slam for his third straight appearance. Khachanov gives himself a chance to make an even deeper tournament run, but he must clean up the unforced errors if that’s going to take place. It’s not easy to advance in grand slam play with 40-plus unforced errors. Khachanov has now beaten three top-40 players in three of his last four matches. Khachanov hopes to make the third round of a grand slam for the fourth time in his career. Khachanov has won three of his last four matches on grass court.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Marcos Baghdatis is coming off a straight sets win over Dominic Thiem that took 24 games to decide. In the victory, Baghdatis won 93 percent of his first serve points and 79 percent of his second serve points. Baghdatis won 86 percent of his total service points and hit 25 aces in his first round victory before Thiem retired early in the third set. It was a much needed victory for Baghdatis, who entered this tournament on a lengthy losing streak and had issues winning a set, let alone a match. Baghdatis now hopes to win two matches in a single tournament for the first time since the St. Brieuc Challenger. Baghdatis has a chance to make the third round of a grand slam for the first time since the 2016 US Open. Baghdatis has split his last six matches on grass court.

There’s no previous matches between these two players.

Baghdatis is coming off the most impressive win, but Khachanov is the better big match player and has some serious momentum behind him right now. With recent wins over Ferrer, Kei Nishikori and Mischa Zverev, Khachanov is quietly playing some consistent tennis and has improved in grand slam play the last year or so. Baghdatis doesn’t have the shotmaking ability or the experience to match Khachanov in this match.

Khachanov wins this match in four sets.
