Jan-Lennard Struff vs. Roger Federer
The Line: -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Roger Federer and Jan-Lennard Struff meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.
Roger Federer is coming off a straight sets win over Lukas Lacko that took 27 games to decide. In the victory, Federer won 93 percent of his first serve points and 67 percent of his second serve points. Federer won 85 percent of his total service points and produced 48 winners to just 11 unforced errors. You know Federer is feeling good when he’s serving at that level and even mixing in 16 aces. Federer is fresh and serving some of the best we’ve seen from him, which should make him an even bigger favorite to win this tournament. If Federer is going to get so many free points on his serve the rest of the way, he’s going to win the Wimbledon once again. Federer hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for his 10th straight appearance. Federer hasn’t been bounced before the fourth round of the Wimbledon since 2004. Federer has won 10 of his last 11 matches on grass court.

Jan-Lennard Struff is coming off a five sets win over Ivo Karlovic that took 71 games to decide. In the victory, Struff won 86 percent of his first serve points and 67 percent of his second serve points. Struff managed to win a marathon match despite dropping the first two sets, as he hit 70 winners and had just 16 unforced errors. If Struff is going to play that clean and give his opponent just three break chances, he’s got a shot to pull off the upset here. Struff has certainly been impressive, but it’s also fair to question just how much he has left in the tank after such a lengthy match. Struff has just one career win over a top-10 player, which came against Stan Wawrinka in the 2016 Paris Masters. Struff has a chance to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in his career. Struff has lost five of his last seven matches on grass court.
These two have played once, which was in the 2016 Halle Open, a match Federer won in straight sets. The match took 23 games to be decided.
There was no betting against Federer in his current form anyway, but you can make even less of a case for Struff given the amount of tennis he just played. It’s tough to play five sets and be effective in your next match, even with a day off. There’s tired legs and not enough energy left to play another three or four sets. Not to mention Federer is playing at that elite level once again where you can count on one hand how many guys have a chance to beat him.
Federer makes the fourth round of a grand slam for the 10th straight time.
