Ernests Gulbis and Alexander Zverev meet in the third round of the 2018 tennis Wimbledon.

Ernests Gulbis is coming off a five sets win over Damir Dzumhur that took 43 games to decide. In the victory, Gulbis won 71 percent of his first serve points and 44 percent of his second serve points. Gulbis managed to win a match despite being broken six times and producing 60 unforced errors. Gulbis hasn’t played the cleanest tennis in his first two matches, but he’s produced a combined 106 winners and has found a way to outlast both opponents in five sets. It also helps to have a rest advantage over his opponent here despite playing a ton of tennis to get to this position. Gulbis hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the second time since 2015. Gulbis has never made the fourth round of the Wimbledon. Gulbis has won seven of his last eight matches on grass court.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Alexander Zverev is coming off a five sets win over Taylor Fritz that took 50 games to decide. In the victory, Zverev won 78 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Zverev won 70 percent of his total service points and had 44 winners to 29 unforced errors. After a break due to darkness, Zverev was able to come back and dominate the final two sets to advance to the third round. The problem is Zverev was in real danger of losing that match before the suspension, so there’s no telling what happens to the German on short rest. Zverev must come out with more energy from the start if he’s going to advance. Zverev hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the third time in his career. Zverev looks for back-to-back fourth round grand slam appearances at the Wimbledon. Zverev has won five of his last seven matches on grass court.

There’s no match history between these two players.

Gullible is worth a look here based on the rest advantage and the fact Zverev was sluggish in his second round match. I’ve said before that the amount of matches Zverev has played to this point could impact him, as he’s still a very young player and not used to such a heavy workload. With that said, I’ll back Zverev anyway. He’s the far more talented player and showed just how easily he can cruise past lesser talented players when he’s fully engaged.

Give me Zverev to reach the fourth round.
